Wheelchair Accessible Taxi (WAT) Operational Support Grant - Round 2

The WAT Operational Support Grant program for 2025/2026 will be delivered across two grant rounds with the program having three central objectives including to:

  1. provide a level of immediate financial relief for WAT vehicle operators,
  2. incentivise more WAT services to be offered, and
  3. understand the cost pressures faced by WAT vehicle owners in both purchasing and maintaining a WAT vehicle.

Who can apply for funding?

The second-round grants are available to owners of WAT vehicles who meet the following conditions. The conditions are also detailed in the grant application form available on the Transport for NSW (TfNSW) website through the supporting Smarty-Grants link. They include:

  • the vehicle registration type supports WAT services and is registered in NSW,
  • the operator is an authorised Taxi Service Provider (TSP) or an Affiliated TSP,
  • where a WAT vehicle owner has received a Prohibition Notice as issued by the Point to-Point Commissioner within 12 months of the date a grant application being made, the required compliance actions must have been addressed before the application can be assessed,
  • Greater Sydney WAT vehicles should have at least logged into the Wheelchair Book & Ride service within the last 12 months at the time of application or completed an M50 job through TTSS to be eligible for application,
  • WAT vehicles outside of Greater Sydney should have at least completed an M50 job through TTSS or have an email from their TSP or Affiliated TSP supporting the completion of WAT work to be eligible for application, and
  • have no outstanding TTSS investigations at the time of application or have been suspended from performing M50 work through the TTSS program.
